Consequences of absence from UAE for more than 6 months - Residence Visa in Dubai

Did you know that with a Dubai visa, you must enter the country every 6 months for your visa to remain valid?

If foreigners wish to live and work in the UAE on a long-term basis, they will need a UAE Resident Visa. A UAE Resident Visa offers the holder many benefits, including:

  • The possibility of opening a bank account
  • The possibility of obtaining a bank loan
  • The possibility for your children to attend state or private schools
  • Access to government health services and health insurance.

However, to obtain a UAE residency visa, you must meet certain criteria, such as finding a job, investing in one of the emirates, or starting a business.

Dubai work visa

Dubai work visa is a permit that allows a foreign citizen to work legally in Dubai. To obtain a work visa, one first needs a job with a company in Dubai. The company must then submit a work visa application to the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE).

There are certain requirements that must be met in order to obtain a work visa in Dubai. These include a work permit from the MOHRE, an employment contract and a medical certificate.

The work visa is usually valid for 2 years and can be extended if the employee continues to work for the same company or signs a new employment contract with another company in Dubai. It is important to note that the work visa is only valid for work with the specific company that issued it and that a change of employer requires a new work visa application.

Investor and partner visa in Dubai (company formation)

To obtain an investor and partner visa for Dubai or any other location in the UAE, there are two options:

  • Foundation of a new company

(Mainland or Freezone company)

  • Evidence of existing investments.

Although the terms investor visa and partner visa may be considered synonyms by some in the UAE, there is a structural difference between the two.

The Dubai Investor Visa is issued to an entrepreneur who establishes a sole proprietorship in Dubai. This type of business has a single owner structure with no shareholders or partners.

The Dubai Partner Visa, on the other hand, is issued to an entrepreneur whose business setup has more than one owner or shareholder. In this scenario, you will receive a Partner Visa because your business has more than one shareholder.

Apart from the structural differences and terminology, both the Investor Visa and the Partnership Visa in the UAE are the same in terms of legality and benefits. The validity is 2 years.

Family visa in Dubai

If you are working in the UAE, you can apply for a visa for your family as long as you meet certain requirements and have a valid residence permit. The process for a family visa is fairly simple, but it can be inconvenient if you don't have all the required documents. The UAE has announced some relaxations that will allow a larger group to obtain a family visa. However, keep in mind that immigration rules in the UAE are subject to change. So visit the official website of Amer or GDRFA for accurate information or contact us at StartBusiness.

Important documents for the application are the certified birth and marriage certificates. It is also important that the documents are in the correct language. If they are not in English or Arabic, they must be translated and certified by an official translator.

Consequences in case of absence for more than 6 months

The regulation states that a foreign resident's residence visa automatically becomes invalid if he or she stays outside the UAE for more than 180 consecutive days. In this case, the resident must apply for a new entry visa in order to re-enter the UAE. However, there are exceptions that allow foreign residents to maintain their residence visa even if they remain outside the UAE for more than six months, such as Golden Visa holders.
